OVERVIEW:  Students will read and discuss the short story Jacinto recibe su paga extraordinaria by Camilo JosŽ Cela.

OBJECTIVES:  1. SW use new and known vocabulary to create and retell a story.  (7.1, A,B) 2.  SWD comprehension of story read by answering and organizing events in sequence.  (7.1, B) 3. SWBAT change a story from the present to the preterite (7.1,  A, B)  4. SW practice all communication skills by doing activities from the textbook. (7.1, A,B)  5.  SW cultural traditions of the season (7.2, A)

Actividades

1.     Group activity:  in groups of three, describe the picture and tell the story. 10 minutes. Make a list of useful vocabulary for retelling the story.  Be prepared to share words with the class. 

2.     After creating a vocabulary list for the class, students will collaborate in telling the story from the illustration. Use the vocabulary and stay in the present tense.  

3.     On the board, copy story as students share. 

4.     Read the story created by the students.  Does it describe the scene?  The season?  The characters?  What happens?  How does the story end?

5.     Re-read the story and make corrections.  Check grammar and vocabulary.

6.     Change the tense of the story to the preterit/imperfect.

7.     Read a selection from the story – TBp.96, write down new key vocabulary.

8.     Do activities 1 and 2 TBp. 96, 97.  Discuss in class

9.     Read about the author, Camilo JosŽ Cela.

10.  Scan the story, make a list of unknown vocabulary.

11.  Read the story – APL pp. 99-103.  Students will play the different parts.

12.  Discuss:  1. ÀQuŽ quiere hacer Jacinto con su paga extraordinaria? 2. ÀC—mo es la relaci—n entre Jacinto y Benjamina?  3. ÀQuŽ pas— en el metro?

13.  Group activity – Activity A APL p. 104 – put the events in a logical sequence.

14.  Vocabulary ÒjeopardyÓ – APL p. 107, Activity A

15.  Speaking activity – Activity F, APL p. 109

16.  Writing activity – Activity C APL 110 – Use the past tenses

17.  Listening activity – APL p. 112
