Welcome to the world of Pre - Calculus. This year promises to be the hardest yet most rewarding year of mathematics you have ever experienced.
Grades
a. 75% Tests
b. 25% Homework
Homework - I will check homework everyday. I expect everyone to have their work daily. I will grade homework based on completion. You will receive a grade based on the following:
3 - Complete with all work shown
2 - more than half complete with work shown
1 - More than a third done with work shown
0 - Less than a third done or just a list of answers
At the top of each homework assignment I expect to see the following heading:
Name
Page, Section and Problem Numbers
If you do not have this heading I will take a point off the grade.
I expect your work to be done in a notebook. I will not accept single sheets of paper. You can use a three ring binder, a copy book or a spiral notebook. I want you to be organized! If I see paper shoved in your book they will be thrown away. I want these books to last.
Tests - I expect that every test will be done in pencil. Come to class with a pencil, I will not loan you a pencil. If you do the test in pen I will take 5 points off. If you do not have your calculator with you I will loan you one but it will cost you 5 points. In other words, bring your calculator and a pencil to every test.
Calculators - You will be issued a TI-83. We will use them throughout the course. You will have some tests in which calculators are allowed and some when they are not allowed. You cannot become dependent on the calculator. If you lose or damage the calculator it will cost you $100.00.
Text Books - Your books are in great condition I expect to get them back that way. You must have a book cover on your book at all times. If your book is not covered I will take a point from your homework that day. Consider having a cover on your book as a daily assignment.
Daily Warm - Ups - Most sections will begin with a daily warm up. These problems must be done while I am checking the homework. The problems are review problems from previous sections. By doing these problems you will begin to retain some important math skills that will be needed at a later date. If I see you clowning around instead of working on the warm-ups I will take a point off your homework grade that day.
I am looking forward to a great year. I hope you are all ready to work hard and have a little fun. If you ever feel like you are getting lost please talk to me. Do not fall behind or you will have a tough time catching up. If you or your parents need to get in touch with me you can either email me at obstr@lcmrschools.com or phone the office at 884-3475 and leave a message.
I will keep a monthly calendar on my web page so that you can see where we are going and what assignments are due on certain days. If you are absent either email me or check the calendar so you do not fall behind. Try hard not to miss the double period days.
The following table has links to the class notes. If you lose yours or need an advanced copy they are there for you to print. I will only give you one copy then it is up to you to have the notes everyday in class.
